Hotel B makes Condé Nast Traveler's Gold List 2016: Best Hotels in the World
DON'T BE FOOLED by the overriding aura of refinement at Hotel B in Lima: red roses, checkerboard floors and white-coated waiters may whisper old-world elegance, but just beneath this veneer lies the thumping heart of a passionate bohemian.
The grand, high-ceilinged, 17-bedroom refuge contains an astonishing collection of contemporary art from the First Ladies of the Peruvian art scene, the de la Puente sisters. In fact, the Lucia de la Puente gallery - just a few doors down and accessible to guests via an underground passage - is credited with nurturing the once sleepy neighborhood of Barranco into the global art hub it is today.
It's this artistic pedigree that allows the concierge to open the right doors and plot an adventure through the ateliers and designer workshops scattered around Barranco's leafy streets to meet the masters in person.
Just don't be surprised if you bump into them gawping at the gin-and-tonic menu over
scallop tiraditos at Hotel B's rocking restaurant-bar, which has evolved into the unofficial headquarters for the neighbourhood's creatives and Limeño socialites, who gossip over the cold-pressed-juice bar.
To escape the buzz, head up through the teatina skylight to the guest-only roof terrace, where a butler will whisk up cardamom-infused Chilcanos to toast the setting sun.
